The American Cancer Society is the nationwide, community-based, voluntary health organization dedicated to eliminating cancer as a major health problem by preventing cancer, saving lives, and diminishing suffering from cancer through research, education, advocacy, and service.
The Lebo Chapter of the National Honor Society is sponsoring a community service project to help raise funds for the American Cancer Society by selling "Footprint Cards" for $1.00 each. The money raised through the Relay for Life of Coffey County and other Relay's across the state funds live-saving research as well as patient service programs. There are currently 2.5 million dollars' worth of research grants at the University of Kansas and last year 16 patients in Coffey County were provided over 50 different services from the American Cancer Society. Your purchase of a "Footprint" will help fund research and local patient services. NHS members will be selling the "Footprints" at the February 8 and February 22 basketball games. You can also stop by the guidance office in the high school to purchase your "Footprint" or make a donation, or you can mail it to the high school at PO Box 45, Lebo, KS 66856. Be sure to mark the envelope Attn: Lisa Botkin. Please make checks payable to American Cancer Society.
This year's Relay for Life of Coffey County will be held on Friday, May 3, 2013 at the Burlington High School track from 6:00 pm to midnight. There will be games and activities for the whole family throughout the night as well as a Cancer Survivor Lap and Luminaira Ceremony to honor those who are fighting, remember those we have lost, and celebrate those who have won their fight.
